IPI employs the IBAK Panoramo side scanning system for mainline pipe inspection.  The Panoramo system uses duel (front and rear) mounted fisheye cameras to capture digital images.  Each camera captures a 185 degree view that when combined allows for a 360 degree view of the entire pipe surface.  Continuous travel allows the unit to capture still images that are then sewn together to create a continuous feed.

Interactive is quite possibly the most comprehensive descriptor of panoramic technology.  Data is acquired at a continuous rate – operators do not have to stop the unit to manually pan/tilt/zoom.  Once the data is acquired in the field, it is then processed in a controlled office environment (see processing in IPI package) thus reducing the chance of operator error and allowing for more defects to be seen.
